The SPEDU region is traversed by the Motloutse, Lotsane, Thune, Limpopo and Shashe Rivers and is home to Dikgatlhong, Letsibogo, Lotsane and Thune Dams which have potential for irrigating designated land for agricultural use. Additionally the region has very great potential underground water aquifers which can be exploited.

With an envisioned growth to the economy by both the manufacturing industry, agriculture sector as well as infrastructure development in the region, there is a need for services to be provided as key elements that contributes to a unique destination. The Tourism and Services function is therefore necessary to improve quality of life. SPEDU region is endowed with unique man-made and natural features that allows for non-traditional tourism and services development that will yield return on investment with gains from the economy as the sector strengthens linkages and promote value chains.
