SPEDU is a Government agency in Botswana established to drive sustainable economic development in the Selebi-Phikwe region. It focuses on attracting investment, supporting businesses, and creating employment opportunities.

1988

SPRDP

Selebi-Phikwe Regional Development Programme (SPRDP) was set up with the aim of diversifying the economy and the programme succeeded in attracting manufacturing firms, mainly in the clothing and textiles sector, with fiscal incentives.



2006

Selebi Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit Formed

A study on the diversification of the economy of Selebi Phikwe was undertaken for the then Ministry of Finance and Development Planning resulting in the formation of Selebi Phikwe Economic Diversification Unit (a Government Unit under the Ministry of Finance Development Planning).

 


 
2012

R.E.D. Agency

The Unit evolved into a Regional economic development agency withthe expansion of the mandate to the hinterland of Selebi Phikwe specifically to the area of Bobirwa, Tswapong North and Mmadinare-Sefhophe.



2012

Company Registration

The agency was registered as a company limited by guarantee in the year 2012,  under the name SPEDU, wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Botswana

 


 
2015

SPEDU, a Company Limited by Guarantee becomes operational under the then Ministry of Trade and Industry (MITI)
