SPEDU Crowned Best Government Exhibitor at Global Expo Botswana 2025SPEDU – a parastatal under the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship Botswana formed to promote economic transformation in the SPEDU region – emerged as one of the standout participants at the 2025 Pula Global Expo, proudly taking home the Best Government and Parastatal Award.

For SPEDU Manager, Corporate Communications, Shiellah Moribame Moakofi, the award is more than a trophy. It is a symbol of dedication, resilience, and proof that their work to unlock the region’s potential is creating a tangible difference. “This award is a testament to SPEDU’s tireless efforts towards driving economic growth and diversification in our region. It validates our strategies and motivates us to continue serving investors and communities better,” she said.

SPEDU’s participation at the 2025 Global Expo perfectly aligned with the theme *‘Unlocking Botswana’s Potential: Partnership for Sustainable Growth’.* The organisation’s work has long embodied those very ideals—championing collaboration, diversification, and sustainability in a region once dependent on mining but now steadily reinventing itself as a hub for investment and innovation. The SPEDU team used the Expo as a platform to showcase the region’s investment-ready opportunities, promoting sectors such as manufacturing, tourism, agribusiness, infrastructure development, and ICT. Their exhibition booth attracted significant attention from visitors, potential investors, and government representatives eager to learn more about the prospects available in Selebi-Phikwe.

“We were selling SPEDU as an investment destination of choice. We also showcased some of the products from citizen-owned enterprises that we have facilitated. Many visitors were impressed by the quality of the products and expressed real interest in collaborating with these businesses,” explained Moribame Moakofi. Among the highlights of their exhibit was SPEDU’s display of products produced by SPEDU-facilitated investors. Visitors were able to engage directly with these entrepreneurs, sample their products, and discuss possible procurement or partnership opportunities. “Seeing our local businesses interacting with potential investors and customers was incredibly rewarding. It reminded us why our work matters—to give the region’s people a platform to grow and succeed,” said Moribame Moakofi.

SPEDU’s award win capped off a week of vibrant engagement and promising discussions. The recognition reaffirmed the organisation’s leadership in promoting sustainable development, regional competitiveness, and inclusive economic growth. While the journey towards full economic diversification continues, Moribame Moakofi noted that SPEDU is determined to build on this momentum. The team is already exploring new projects in renewable energy, infrastructure, and tourism—aiming to attract both domestic and international investors to the region. “Winning this award reinforces our belief that we’re on the right path. But it also reminds us that there’s still more to do. We’ll continue to strengthen partnerships and create opportunities that truly unlock Selebi-Phikwe’s potential,” she added.
