Position Purpose
The Senior Executive, Tourism is responsible for driving tourism product development, packaging, promotion, and investment facilitation within the SPEDU region. The role focuses on transforming tourism assets into market-ready, investable, and competitive tourism products, strengthening destination appeal, increasing visitor spend, and enabling inclusive participation of local enterprises and communities.
The position plays a key role in diversifying the regional economy by positioning tourism as a strategic growth sector aligned with SPEDU’s broader investment promotion, market access, and enterprise development mandate.
Responsibilities
- Establish a structured and competitive tourism development framework for the SPEDU region.
- Develop and package market-ready tourism products and experiences.
- Increase visibility and market access for tourism products.
- Strengthen coordination among tourism stakeholders.
- Ensure high-quality, sustainable tourism offerings.
- Track tourism sector performance and impact.
- Ensure tourism development initiatives comply with regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Escalate material risks affecting tourism projects to management.
- Maintain ethical standards and transparency in stakeholder engagements.
Decision-Making Authority
- Recommends tourism products, packaging approaches, and investment opportunities.
- Advises on marketing priorities and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Escalates issues requiring executive or policy-level intervention.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Education: Degree or postgraduate qualification in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Business Development, or related field.
- Experience: 5–7 years in tourism development, product packaging, marketing, or investment facilitation.
- Technical Competencies: Tourism product development, packaging, market access, stakeholder coordination, investment facilitation.
- Behavioural Competencies: Creativity, stakeholder engagement, commercial awareness, organisation, communication skills.
SPEDU
SPEDU is a Company wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Botswana, under the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship whose mandate is to facilitate and coordinate economic development projects and regeneration of the SPEDU Region.
The Company promotes inward investment and trade facilitation in the Region. In particular, SPEDU is currently focusing on investment promotion, and is seeking to promote the establishment and growth of enterprises mainly in Manufacturing, Tourism, Agri-business and other business development initiatives.
